Benefits of Art Therapy


  •   Art therapy provides an individual an opportunity to externalize one’s thoughts and feelings through visual images.
  • Art expression offers a tangible and lasting product that provides a valuable component to therapy. Art also functions as a transitional object in that it is a concrete record of therapy and a reminder of the client-therapist relationship between meetings. 
  •   Art expression is helpful in releasing emotions"catharsis ".  In psychological terms, catharsis, is the discharge of strong emotions for relief.  Engaging in art within the context of therapy can be cathartic in that it may well provide the release of painful or troubling feelings.
  • The creative process of art making can also alleviate stress by inducing physiological response of relaxation or by altering mood. 
  •   The creative output of the students reflects feedback from his unconscious mind.
